Apple Bought More AI Companies Since 2016

GlobalData shows that Apple has invested heavily in artificial intelligence, acquiring more AI companies than anyone else between 2016 and 2020, with Apple buying 25 AI companies over that five-year period, compared with 14 from Google.

Most of Apple’s acquisitions seem to serve the continued improvement of Siri.

In addition, 60 AI companies were acquired between 2016 and 2020, when data from Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Facebook are combined.

Other Apple acquisitions in the past included Lighthouse AI, a home camera start-up that was bought in 2019, while Drive. ai, a multiple technology vendor related to vehicles, was acquired in the same year.

As expected, Apple does not provide further details on the reasons for the acquisition.
