Google Maps to Include Weather, New Route Options and More

Google Maps recently announced that some new features will be available very soon. The first of these updates concerns a new user interface for directions. While the user interface Direction currently uses tabs for any type of transportation such as driving, mass transit, hiking, riding and cycling, the new design will appear in a flat list.

Users can also press the “Options” button and choose their preferred mode of transport. In addition, users can prioritize route options for driving, hiking, trains, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, rides, “bike and scooter rides” and ferries, while selecting multiple options at the same time.

While information about weather updates will remain limited, the most obvious way Google will display weather and air quality will be to display weather and air quality data with an overlay that shows rain and air in a radar view with different colors that shows intensity.

In addition, according to Google, “data from partners like The Weather Company, AirNow.gov and the Central Pollution Board will drive these layers, which will roll out to Android and iOS in the coming months. The weather layer will be available worldwide and the air quality layer will be introduced in Australia, India and the US, with more countries to follow. “
