Bezos Supports Biden’s Infrastructure Push, Corporate Tax Rate Increase

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos released a statement last Tuesday in support of President Joe Biden’s push for an infrastructure bill and called on Congress to work with his administration to strike a deal which includes raising corporate taxes to help pay for it.

Bezos said he is hoping for a compromise that maintains or enhances US competitiveness although he did not mention whether he supports the specifics of the US president’s plan.

Amazon is facing investigations from the House Judiciary Committee for potentially anti-competitive actions and is currently weathering accusations of union busting as it waits for the results of an election at its Alabama warehouse that could birth the retail giant’s first union in US soil.

Amazon has tried to furnish its reputation by promoting its support of a $15 federal minimum wage as well as the compensation and benefits it gives its warehouse employees. It drew negative attention late March when it tweeted fiery messages to lawmakers, with one specifically deriding Rep. MIke Pocan for believing stories that Amazon employees had to pee in bottles to keep up with relentless working hours.

Amazon later apologized for the tweet.

The company likewise pledged more support to the government as it offered to use its logistics expertise to speed up the availability and administration of Covid-19 jabs.
