7.5 Million Bots Inflate Twitch Viewer Numbers

Amazon’s video game streaming platform Twitch has discovered 7.5 million bots that were “follow-botting” or “view-botting.” The streaming platform’s improved machine learning found millions of these accounts and they are now being covered, which could affect the statistics of some streamers. While “follow-bots” are used to improve a streamer’s follow-up numbers, viewer bots inflate the current number of viewers who see a stream, which can help increase a channel’s chances of discovery on the platform. Twitch said it would enforce its terms of service for those bot accounts, including possible legal action that could reduce a channel’s follower and viewer numbers in the coming days.
