RAs companies continue to experience the effects of the pandemic in the workplace, professional staffing service provider Robert Half Technology surveyed more than 2,800 senior managers in the US to uncover hiring and salary trends for 2021.
The survey showed the following trends that have emerged:
Increased competition for certain roles such as
- Developers to create new applications and software services as well as to expand the reach in emerging technologies
- DevOps engineers to help companies manage IT infrastructure and microservices architectures
- System Administrators to support the shift to going fully remote
Interviews and onboarding go remote
- Video conferencing services have replaced in-person hiring and more companies need to be more creative to make sure that new employees feel like they are part of the company
Remote jobs on the rise
- 42% of companies now advertise fully remote jobs
- This has also broken boundaries and geographical limitations when it comes to hiring
- This has also increased the number of CVs that HR departments view and process for their staffing needs
Shortening the hiring process
- 44% of senior managers have shortened the hiring process to quickly fill staffing needs and to decrease the chances of a top talent being pirated by the competitor
A focus on retention and alleviating burnout
- 80% of managers in the US are concerned about the retention of their top employees and to avoid talent drain
- Reasons for the talent drain include low morale, heavier workloads, salary cuts and lack of raises, and management dissatisfaction
Soft skills still In demand
- Top soft skills include attention to detail, business acumen, change management, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, customer service, leadership, problem solving and project management
Silver linings of change
- The pandemic also led to more frequent communication from leadership, improved collaboration, more time for innovation, greater transparency into business priorities and more efficient processes
