New Twitter Feature Allows Users to Tip Creators for Tweets

Twitter users can now give tips to Twitter creators as a new way to support each other’s content, beyond retweeting or liking a post.

“Tip Jar,” now allows you to send money via Twitter and is activated by an icon next to the “Follow” button on a content creator’s profile page.

Payment services or platforms that have signed on include Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, PayPal, and Venmo. Payment service availability varies by region. For Android users, tips can also be sent within spaces.

Tip Jar went live on May. 6, 2021 for all those who use Twitter in English. A limited group of people can add Tip Jar to their profile and take tips, including journalists, experts, nonprofits and people Twitter calls “creators.”

Twitter is also updating its Tipping prompt and Help Centre to further emphasize that other apps can share information between people who send or receive tips.

Twitter says it will not be profiting from the new feature.
