Bill and Melinda Gates Announce Divorce On Twitter

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have announced their divorce after nearly three decades of marriage.

The couple announced the news of their separation on Twitter, telling the public of the latest development saying, “After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage.”

The pair met after Melinda joined Microsoft as a product manager in 1987. They married in 1994 and have three children together.

The billionaires founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle in 2000, which focused primarily on public health, eradicating extreme poverty, education, climate change, and other areas.

Melinda revealed in her recent memoir, “The Moment of Lift” that working with Bill Gates at the foundation has improved her relationship. After the latest news, there are fears that the divorce could affect the foundation.

However, Bill and Melinda put an end to the speculation in their announcement on social media, saying, “We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in the next phase of our lives.”
