A Forrester report examined the expectations of so-called Generation Z. Although technology continues to play an important role, there are certain expectations that are very different from those of older generations.
Here are five of the most notable:
- Two-in-one laptops are strongly preferred – about a third preferred a 2-in-1 laptop, higher than the 23% of millennials or 17% of Gen Xers.
- Productivity tools are less in demand – younger workers still use them, but not as much as they are able to find other ways to get work done than just Word and Excel.
- Security control – 46% of Gen Z employees want to choose their own security software.
- Privacy is extremely important – younger workers are concerned about privacy. 23% of respondents do not want the company to access personal information on personal devices used for work.
- There is no single workplace – apart from working from home, Gen Z is also more likely to work in one coworking space, on the way to work, or even at multiple locations within the office.
To balance it all out, Forrester also found that socioeconomic status, seniority, geography, and the role one plays in an organization can correlate better with technological preferences than with age.
