Several Websites Return Online Following Fastly Glitch

High-traffic websites such as Reddit, Amazon, CNN, Spotify, the New York Times and thousands of government, news and social media sites around the world came back online after being affected by an hour-long outage linked to cloud company Fastly.

While the websites came back after the outage, which lasted from a few minutes to an hour, the senior vice president at Akamai, a cloud service company, explained that users quickly received error messages when they visited affected websites on Tuesday, suggesting that the glitch was not a product of cyberattacks.

Since many websites make a lot of money from digital advertising, the one-hour glitch resulted in a loss of more than $29 million in digital advertising revenue per hour for websites around the world.
