Apple To Replace Passwords With Passkeys On Devices

During a WWDC developer meeting titled “Move beyond passwords,” tech giant Apple gave a taste of a new feature called “passkeys in iCloud keychain,” where users don’t have to take any hardware with them because their various Apple products will now include the passkeys.

Passkeys are a pair of private and public keys that function as hardware security keys but are securely stored in the iCloud keyring.

While passkeys is a wonderful innovation in the sense that they are synced across different devices, meaning that they are recoverable even if a user loses his / her passwords, it also offers other quality advantages, including the fact that they cannot be guessed, cannot be reused across services, and are not vulnerable to phishing or data breaches.
