Microsoft’s Linux Repositories Suffered 18+ Hour Outage

Microsoft engineer Rahul Bhandari confirmed the outage, which caused the repository from which the tech giant provides software installers for Linux distributions such as CentOS, Debian, Fedora, OpenSUSE and others to fail and remain inaccessible for more than 18 hours.

Clarifying things five hours after the problem was first reported, Bhandari said the infrastructure team was “running into some space issues.”

18 hours after the problem was reported, he explained that the mirrors are now available and that the main cause of the outage was “a regression in [apt repositories] during some feature migration work that resulted in those packages becoming unavailable on the mirrors.”
