Ookla released its Q2 internet report on mobile performance in the U.S., with T-Mobile being the fastest and most consistent mobile operator to date.

According to the Speedtest Global Index, T-Mobile achieved average download speeds of 54.13 Mbps and consistency of 84.8%, followed by AT&T with 47.96 MB and Verizon with 40.02 Mbps.

In terms of 5G, T-Mobile achieved the fastest average 5G download speed this quarter at 99.84 Mbps, an increase of 21.2% over the first quarter of 2021, while Verizon reached 78.33 Mbps and AT&T 75.61%.

The report also showed that T-Mobile has the best 5G availability in the U.S. with over 69% of the entire country, while AT&T covers 38.4% of the country and Verizon at 35.3%.

T-Mobile was the fastest operator in 29 of the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2021, although the majority of the top cities with the best internet connection were not on the T-Mobile carrier.

AT&T was the fastest provider in 20 cities in the second quarter of 2021.

Although the “true” 5G using the mmWave band is only available in a few places in some cities, U.S. carriers are trying to popularize it.

A report earlier this year showed that the iPhone 12 is helping to popularize 5G, and the iPhone 12 Pro Max was the most popular 5G phone at the time.

According to the same report, the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G is the fastest device in the U.S. with an average download speed of 73.19 Mbps, closely followed by the iPhone 12 Pro Max at 69.94 Mbps.
