U.K. Ministers Stopped Funding Chip Factory After China Sale

British ministers have reportedly capped taxpayer-funded payments to Britain’s biggest microchip factory after it was sold to a Chinese technology company, according to The Telegraph.

U.K. Research and Investment (UKRI) has suspended funding for Newport Wafer Fab on government orders after it was sold to Nexperia.

In early July, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he did not want to drive Chinese investment out of the U.K. because of “anti-China spirit” over the sale of the semiconductor maker.
