Gun Owners’ Scared After Firearm Website Data Breach

Some gun owners in the U.K. expressed concern after around 100,000 names and addresses of customers of a leading website known for buying and selling shotguns and rifles were published on the dark web.

The website Guntrader.uk said it learned of the breach on Monday and informed the Information Commissioner’s Office.

It said that although around 100,000 customer records were stolen, “no information relating to gun ownership or the location of firearms was taken.”

Police and the National Crime Agency are investigating the breach.

Gun ownership is heavily controlled in the U.K. making it more difficult to purchase and valuable on the black market.

The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) is asking members to be observant around home security following the breach.
