Instagram Launches Feature To Hide Abusive Messages

Instagram has recently introduced several new features, including the “Limits” feature, which aims to prevent abuse by many people.

The feature works by automatically hiding comments and messages from people who do not follow or have just started following users who switch it on.

Rather than requiring popular users to completely disable all comments and messages, the “Limits” feature allows anyone to silence those who have not “long-standing followers.”

Other features the company is releasing as part of its crackdown on online bullying and abuse include the Hidden Words system, which helps filter out abusive messages on the platform, and an expanded block list of words, hashtags and emojis that the system automatically blocks to filter out abusive messages.

The social media giant has also stepped up the language of pop-ups, warning users of the possibility of having their accounts deleted for repeated breaches if they try to post “a potentially offensive comment.”
