T-Mobile Investigates Customer Data Breach Claims

T-Mobile said it was investigating claims of a data breach posted in an online forum involving more than 100 million T-Mobile customers.

According to the report published by Vice, the data included information such as Social Security numbers, phone numbers, names, physical addresses and driver’s license information.

Vice’s report revealed that a hacker told the media outlet that data from more than 100 million users had been obtained from T-Mobile servers and that the hacker was demanding 6 bitcoin for a portion of the data containing 30 million social security numbers and driver’s licenses, while the rest of the data is said to be sold privately.

A T-Mobile spokesman confirmed the incident and said: “We are aware of claims made in an underground forum and have been actively investigating their validity. We do not have any additional information to share at this time.”
