Google Meet Warns User When Device Causes An Echo

Google will now notify users when they cause an echo during video calls and give tips on how to stop it.

Echoes “happen when the system feeds back audio into a call.” When an annoying echo occurs, Google Meet notifies the user via a red badge on the Options and Text Notification button.

Tapping the Troubleshooting and Help window opens on “Audio & video devices.”

Google also gives a brief explanation and makes recommendations such as using headphones, lowering speaker volume and muting when not speaking.

This feature is enabled by default and comes into effect today. It will be fully available in the coming weeks.
