Facebook To Roll Out Portable Version Of Portal Video Device

Share post:

Facebook announced two new models of its video-calling devices, known as Portal, on Tuesday, including the very first portable version of the device.

Updates to the new models include a “household mode,” which allows users to share a Portal while controlling the access of others to their contacts and apps, as well as a way to watch TV via the product with others who do not use a Portal device.

The two new models will ship from October 19. Facebook revealed that the portable Portal Go will cost $199 and the large-screen Portal+ will cost $349.

Although Portal devices, which were first launched in 2018, point to Facebook’s plans to create hardware devices as it looks like it will produce revenue from other sources, apart from ads, Facebook noted that it will add support for Microsoft Teams in Portal starting in December.

It also noted that it is testing a service that allows companies to remotely manage work accounts and devices from Portals with multiple U.S. companies.
