Apple’s Requirements for Storing ID Cards in Wallet App

CNBC recently outlined Apple’s requirements for states interested in the company’s new feature, which provides space for storing ID cards in the wallet application.

These requirements include the fact that Apple has “sole discretion” over the adoption of the technology behind storing IPs in Apple Wallet; states must allocate resources, personnel, project management and funding required for the program; states must “prominently feature the Program all public-facing communication relating to Digital Identity Credentials,” Apple must be granted “prior review and approval” of all marketing materials; responsibility for verifying the authenticity of user identities rests with Apple; state governments and agencies are responsible for funding all efforts related to the feature including maintaining the systems for issuing and maintaining digital identification and marketing.

The documents about the settlement between Apple and some States (Georgia, Arizona, Kentucky, Maryland and Oklahoma) were obtained by CNBC through public records requests and “other sources.”
