Twitter has confirmed via updated developer documentation with AMP that it is discontinuing support for the feature.
This means that, unlike in the past, when links send people to the AMP version of a website, people are redirected to the actual target website when they click on a link in the Twitter app.
Although the document states that the service will be discontinued in the fourth quarter of 2021, the move appears to have already been implemented, as Android and iOS apps now load the entire website with normal-looking accommodations.
For those who may not know, Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) is an open-source HTML framework optimized for mobile web browsing that helps websites load faster.
Twitter’s move follows a similar move by Google in 2020. Many users have praised Twitter’s decision, as many now have the privilege of being led to the URL they expect.
