Panasonic Confirms Data Breach After Cyber Attack

Share post:

On Friday, Japanese technology giant Panasonic confirmed that it had been the victim of a cyber attack on November 11 in which attackers accessed the company’s data stored on a file server.

Regarding the measures it took after learning of the break-in, the company said: “After detecting the unauthorized access, the company immediately reported the incident to the relevant authorities and implemented security countermeasures, including steps to prevent external access to the network. In addition to conducting its investigation, Panasonic is currently working with a specialist third-party organization to investigate the leak and determine if the breach involved customers’ personal information and/or sensitive information related to social infrastructure.”

Panasonic later confirmed in an interview with Tech Crunch that the company did not notice the attack until November 11, after the Japanese media Mainichi and NHK revealed that the breach began on June 22 and ended on November 3. NHK also revealed that the server had breached stored information about the company’s partner and its technology.
