Microsoft, Qualcomm To Build Chips For Future AR Glasses

Microsoft has teamed up with chipmaker Qualcomm to develop custom-augmented reality chips that will play a significant role in the development of future lightweight AR glasses.

In addition, the two companies announced the merger of their augmented reality software (Microsoft Mesh and the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform).

In its press release informing the public of the proposed partnership, Qualcomm stated that the two companies will work on augmented reality products in both the consumer and corporate sectors.

The latest partnership should consolidate the ambitions of the companies towards the metaverse.

This is not the first time Microsoft has partnered with Qualcomm: In the past, Microsoft has worked with Qualcomm to develop custom SQ1 and SQ2 chips for its ARM-based Surface Pro X devices.
