The Chinese hacker group APT 27 is targeting German companies, especially in the pharmaceutical and technology sectors.
According to Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) in its circular to companies, the hackers steal trade secrets and intellectual properties.
Apart from this, the hackers also try to infiltrate the networks of customers and service providers in order to infiltrate several companies at the same time.
The Chinese hacking group known as “Emissary Panda” was initially identified in the BfV’s annual constitutional protection report from 2019 and is said to have targeted foreign embassies and critical sectors.
In 2021, the United States accused China of cyber espionage. China denied the allegations, but the United States was able to persuade allies and bodies such as NATO, the European Union, Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand to condemn China’s spying activities.
The U.S. Department of Justice charged four Chinese nationals of targeting dozens of organizations in the U.S. and abroad.
