Google has unveiled a new and free version of its Workspace suite called Workspace Essential Starter.
This version provides users with access to Google tools such as Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive and Meet. However, it does not include a Gmail account. A user must log in with their existing work email address.
After they are verified, interested users can use it and invite others to work with them.
The new version is designed to allow users who use Google productivity tools in their private lives to continue working while doing away with old technologies in the workplace.
One of the advantages of using Essentials Starter is that users can work with existing tools without file conversion.
In addition, users can store, share and edit more than 100 file types, including Microsoft Office documents and PDFs. There is a provision for encrypted and secure access to files.
According to Kelly Waldher, VP of marketing at Google Workspace, the new offering comes at a time “when employees are stepping back and making decisions around how they want to work and who they want to work for. By making this new offering available, we will continue to empower employees to make decisions that’s best for them.”
