Ukraine Warns Of Imminent Cyberattacks On Banks, Agencies

Ukraine’s government-run cybersecurity agency CERT-UA has warned of imminent cyberattacks on government agencies, banks and the defense sector, following warnings in a hacking forum.

According to the agency, one message on the forum had “referred to the lease of servers to prepare new attacks on the websites of the public sector, the banking sector, and the defense sector.”

In recent weeks, Ukraine has faced numerous cyberattacks across various sectors, and it has continued to happen as the country continues to lock horns with Russia over unresolved issues.

Last week, Ukraine suffered another cyberattack which took down the web portal of its defense ministry. The attack also disrupted banking and terminal services at major state lenders.

Ukraine accuses Russia of conducting the attacks, which are intended to cause panic and crash its financial system. Russia denies any involvement in such attacks.
