Telcos Waive Charges To Allow Free Calls To Ukraine

More than a dozen telecoms operators on both sides of the Atlantic are either giving free international calls to Ukraine or waiving roaming charges for the beleaguered nation.

The European telecommunications group ETNO announced that an internal survey showed that at least 13 of its members have taken steps to help Ukrainians in the wake of Russia’s invasion of the nation and that more will follow the same path in the coming days.

These telecommunications companies include Deutsche Telekom, Orange, Telefonica, Telia Company, A1 Telekom Austria Group, Telenor, Proximus, KPN, Vodafone, Vivacom, TIM Telecom Italia, Altice Portugal and Swisscom.

Some of these telecommunications companies supplied refugees in neighboring countries with SIM cards, free Wi-Fi in refugee camps, activating the ‘SMS donation’ button to help organizations that support refugees, and included Ukrainian channels in IPTV packages for free, ETNO said.
