Germany Warn Users Not To Use Russian Anti-virus Software

Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has warned against using Kaspersky’s anti-virus software.

According to BSI, Kaspersky, a Russian security organization could be used to spy or launch cyberattacks in the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“A Russian IT manufacturer can carry out offensive operations itself, be forced against its will to attack target systems, or be spied on as a victim of a cyber operation without its knowledge or as a tool for attacks against its own customers,” BSI warned.

BSI advised users to replace Kaspersky’s anti-virus carefully in a bid to avoid weakening defenses.

Kaspersky in reaction to the decision stated that it was “made on political grounds.” The company further noted that it had no ties to the Russian government.

The company noted that it would seek further clarification from BSI on the decision which it claimed was “not based on a technical assessment of Kaspersky products.”

The company assured that “the security and integrity of our data services and engineering practices have been confirmed by independent third-party assessments.”
