Changing IT Operating Models Crucial In 2022

According to a Forrester report, a continuous change in the design of the IT operating model is needed to adapt to a dynamic business environment.

Forrester interviewed 25 tech executives some of whom claimed to have achieved their preferred high-performing operating model state. For these tech executives, they were able to achieve their goal by deliberately reshaping their IT operating model.

Those who could not reach their desired state relied on an emerging design or chose a model and introduced continuous learning to refine the implemented model.

According to the report, companies that have achieved higher levels of performance in the transformation of their IT operating model have gradually addressed the challenges incrementally “as part of an ongoing evolution and maturation of their IT operating model, starting with the customer.”

It is therefore important that companies make changes that are consistent with their capacity, maturity, speed, and journey toward customer obsession.

“Maturity in customer obsession defines what IT must do to enable business success at each maturity,” the report says.

To drive performance improvements, technology leaders are encouraged to take a number of steps, including proactively investing in an improved IT customer experience to increase satisfaction, and recognizing that talent mobility is critical to IT business capability performance.

Others involve adopting common business objectives and integrating teams to improve value delivery and selectively applying practices across the value stream to reduce time to market.
