Microsoft To End Support For Internet Explorer on June 15

Share post:

Microsoft is ending support for Internet Explorer browser on June 15. The browser will be retired for Windows 10 client SKUs (version 20H2 and later) and Windows 10 IoT (version 20H2 and later).

Products not affected by this retirement include IE Mode in Edge; IE 11 desktop on Windows 8.1, Windows 7 (with Extended Security Updates), Windows Server LTSC (all versions), Windows Server 2022, Windows 10 client LTSC (all versions), Windows 10 IoT LTSC (all versions).

Microsoft, however, supports IE mode in Edge until at least 2029, and the company further stated that the IE desktop application will be redirected to Microsoft Edge in the coming months after the June 15 support end date.

The decision to continue IE support mode in Microsoft Edge gives web developers 8 years to modernize older apps and ultimately eliminate the need for IE mode.

Support for IE mode will work in line with the lifecycle of current and future versions of Windows client, server, and IoT. This means that if support for a Windows version ends before 2029, support for IE mode for that version will also end.
