Microsoft Withdraws Microsoft 365 Version 2206 After Crash Reports

Microsoft has withdrawn the Microsoft 365 version 2206 updates after user crash reports.

Users explained that their Office applications continue to crash when viewing a contact card or hovering over a user’s name or photo. Taking these actions led in the application crashing with 0xc0000005 and 0xc0000374 exception errors.

In an advisory, Microsoft admitted the problem. Microsoft stated that while an investigation is underway to resolve the problem and identify the cause, the company has pulled Microsoft 365 version 2206.

To mitigate the problem, Microsoft 365 users who are already using version 2206 are recommended to revert to version 2205. To revert to version 2205, administrators are advised to mitigate the problem through the Microsoft 365 Admin Centre or follow other prescribed instructions.

“While we’re continuing to investigate precisely why this occurred, we’ve reverted to the last known, unaffected version to expedite remediation, subsequently confirming resolution with some formerly affected users,” the Microsoft advisory states.

The vulnerability was released with the Monthly Enterprise Channel version 2206 (build 15330.20298), which was released on Tuesday as part of Microsoft’s monthly patch Tuesday.
