Apple has announced that it will offer its customers the tools and expertise they need to repair and maintain their MacBook laptops at home.
Apple pointed out that original parts and service tools will be available from August 23. Customers can buy the repair kits or rent them once for US$49.
Apple had previously introduced self-repair on the iPhone, but the self-repair for MacBooks will only be available for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with the M1 chips.
Self Service Repair for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro offers more than a dozen different types of repairs for each model. These include the display, the top cover of the display, the top cover with battery and the trackpad.
Users with experience in repairing complex electronic devices can make repairs to these Mac notebooks with access to many of the same parts and tools available to Apple Store locations and authorized Apple service providers.
“Self Service Repair is part of Apple’s efforts to further expand access to repairs. For the vast majority of customers who do not have experience repairing electronic devices, visiting a professional repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair,” Apple said.
