YouTube launches Primetime Channels

YouTube has launched a new streaming hub called Primetime Channels to make it easier for customers to watch shows and to unify and sell content from 34 streaming partners on YouTube.

Content from Primetime Channels will be visible alongside other YouTube content, including recommendations and searches among purchased content.

Alphabet, Google’s parent company, previously launched YouTube TV to compete with cable companies and other live TV streaming platforms and is now launching Primetime Channels to serve as a hub for other TV services such as Paramount+ and Showtime, providing users with a one-stop shop for all their streaming needs.

The following services will be available when the Primetime Channels launch Showtime, Paramount+, Starz, AMC+, Epix, Shudder, Acorn TV, Here TV, CuriosityStream, Comedy Dynamics, Up Faith & Family, Hallmark Movies Now, All BLK, Vix+, ConTV, Docurama, Moviesphere, Dove Channel, IFC, ScreenPix, Fandor, Law & Crime, Screambox, Dekkoo, Tastemade+

It is worth noting that users only have access to the streaming catalog of shows or movies from these platforms. Users must watch live TV options through the provider. Services such as Paramount+ have local live CBS coverage, for example.

Primetime Channels will not support live content, only video on demand. However, it is unclear whether subscriptions purchased through Primetime Channels can be used outside YouTube or whether the subscription is directly tied to your account.

YouTube seems optimistic about expanding its list of partners, making it increasingly likely that the show or movie you want to watch is accessible through YouTube.
