Musk to prioritize end-to-end encryption, others in Twitter 2.0

Share post:

Elon Musk has revealed his plans for Twitter 2.0, including longform tweets, encrypted direct messages, user-to-user payments, and other features.

The plans for end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for direct messages, which guarantees message secrecy using full end-to-end encryption – and code spotted in the iOS app suggests that it will use the same E2E encryption standard as Signal, are particularly noteworthy. Meanwhile, end-to-end encryption is used by Signal, Threema, WhatsApp, iMessage, Wire, Tox, and Keybase.

End-to-end (E2E) encryption gives the encryption key to only the message participants, denying Twitter access to the unencrypted content, making it far more secure.

The discovered End-to-end (E2E) encryption codes are open source, which has two advantages. First and foremost, anyone may use it. Second, anyone can examine the code to ensure that it does what it claims and to look for flaws.

Other plans for Twitter 2.0 revealed by Musk include advertising as entertainment, videos, longform tweets, and the relaunch of Blue Verified.
