Apple launches MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips

Apple has announced new M-series chip additions, including M2 Pro and M2 Max versions, as well as updated versions of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini desktop.

The new M2 Pro chip brings pro-level performance to the Mac mini, allowing users to run high-performance workflows. The Mac mini M2 and M2 Pro models provide faster performance, more unified memory, and advanced connectivity, including support for up to two displays on the M2 model and up to three displays on the M2 Pro model. Apple claims that the M2 Pro has twice as many transistors as the M2 and nearly 20% more than the M1 Pro. It also has 200GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, which is twice as much as the standard M2.

They have the same design as their predecessors, and these new chips replace the M1, M1 Pro, and M1 Max chips found in previous models. We previously tested and reviewed the MacBook Pro M1 Pro and M1 Max, as well as the Mac Mini M1.

Aside from the chip generation, the most significant difference is Apple’s promise of up to 22 hours of battery life, which the company claims is “the longest battery life ever in a Mac.” The MacBook Pro also includes Wi-Fi 6E, which replaces Wi-Fi 6, as well as an HDMI connection that now supports 8K displays at 60Hz and 4K displays at 240Hz.

The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro costs $1,999, and the 16-inch model costs $2,499. Both are currently available for pre-order online and will begin shipping and appearing in Apple stores on January 24th.
