According to Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, people are expecting too much from GPT-4 and will most likely be disappointed when it is released.
He stated that GPT-4 development is a long-term project and that it will not be a significant leap forward in terms of capabilities from GPT-3. He also stressed that GPT-4, like all AI technologies, has limitations and should not be regarded as a “magic bullet” capable of solving all problems.
Instead, he urged people to concentrate on AI’s practical applications and how it can be used to improve people’s lives. Altman has previously highlighted the importance of responsible AI development as well as the need for cooperation between the tech industry, government, and academia to ensure that AI is used to benefit all people.
He also discusses the potential of AI to improve various industries and aid in the resolution of global issues such as climate change and healthcare. He also emphasizes the importance of monitoring and regulating AI to avoid negative consequences.
When asked if GPT-4 would be released in the first quarter or half of the year, as many anticipate. He responded by not providing a timetable. “It will come out when we are confident that we can do it safely and responsibly,” he said.
Altman also discussed when OpenAI will build an AI model capable of generating video. “It will come. I wouldn’t want to make a confident prediction about when,” said Altman on generative video AI. “We’ll try to do it, other people will try to do it … It’s a legitimate research project. It could be pretty soon; it could take a while.”
