Amazon Web Services (AWS), Amazon’s cloud computing division, has entered the battle to provide AI technology to businesses with its own AI suite dubbed Bedrock.
The new service seeks to assist businesses in customizing key AI technologies, such as foundation models that create human-like text or graphics. Companies may use their data to generate customized models by fine-tuning the main models.
Bedrock is made up of Amazon’s own foundation models dubbed Amazon Titan as well as third-party choices from firms AI21 Labs, Anthropic, and Stability AI. Amazon’s proprietary AI processors and Nvidia Corp. chips will be used in the underlying servers. The service is intended to let AWS clients experiment with AI technologies without having to deal with the underlying data center servers that support them.
In addition to Bedrock, the business introduced many new tools and services geared at enabling developers to build and run generative AI systems on its cloud. This includes the public availability of CodeWhisperer, an AI-assisted tool for programmers that is free for individual developers and has a premium option for enterprises and organizations, as well as the release of its Titan foundation models, which consist of two big language models available via an AWS managed service.
According to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, the company’s “best days” are ahead despite the “turbulent times” it has faced. Jassy believes that large language models (LLMs) and generative AI projects are going to be “transformative” for the company. Amazon’s stock has fallen by almost 40% over the past year as investors reassess the company’s growth strategy.
