Biofire Technologies has announced the release of the Biofire Smart Gun, the world’s first biometric pistol.
The 9mm pistol is outfitted with technology that restricts who may discharge it by employing fingerprints and 3D infrared facial recognition. The pistol automatically locks when it is removed from the authorized person’s grip and employs encryption technology to prevent it from being converted into a standard handgun.
The gun’s creation took more than a decade, according to CEO and founder Kai Kloepfer, who began working on the project following the 2012 Aurora theater tragedy.
The Biofire Smart Gun is intended for home defense and the prevention of firearm deaths among children, as gun deaths among children in America have increased by 50% in the previous two years. The pistol may be preordered for $1,499 with a refundable $149 deposit. Orders are scheduled to be finished in early 2024, and the pistol will be shipped to buyers via the same legal ATF transfer process that is necessary for all traditional guns.
The gun is also intended for usage in a variety of settings, such as when the operator is wearing gloves or a face mask. Customizable LED indications indicate when the gun is armed, and it automatically locks when not in use. The gun employs biometric data that never leaves the weapon, ensuring privacy. Furthermore, embedded infrared sensors in the grip keep the handgun armed when an authorized person is holding it, eliminating the need to constantly validate their biometrics.
The Biofire Smart Gun comes in 64 different polymer, trigger, and magazine release color combinations. It comes in both right-handed and left-handed variants, with adjustable grip size.
