Microsoft Outlook and Teams to open links in Edge by default

Share post:

Microsoft’s Outlook for Windows app and Teams will soon open web links in Edge browser by default, rather than the browser selected in Windows Settings.

This modification will be implemented for all Windows users with Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Microsoft (MSA) accounts over the next month. Microsoft previously disclosed this change in web link behavior in February, with the goal of assisting consumers by allowing them to avoid moving between Outlook and Edge.

This behavior change will not affect links from Microsoft Teams messages immediately, but the firm claims that it will make it simpler for Outlook and Microsoft Teams users to decrease task switching and stay focused. After activating the functionality, the first time a user clicks on a link in Outlook, it will open in Edge.

According to a corporate spokesman, customers will be offered to select between using Edge and opening subsequent launches within their usual browser when it starts. The functionality may also be disabled in Outlook’s settings. This behavior, however, now takes precedence over Windows Settings, thereby taking the region ruled by the default browser in Windows Settings.
