Fortune 1000 telecom employees highly targeted on dark web

Employees at Fortune 1000 telecommunications companies are among the most susceptible on dark web networks, according to research issued by threat intelligence firm SpyCloud.

The research discovered 6.34 million sets of credentials, including corporate email addresses and passwords, thought to belong to telecom industry employees. Surprisingly, just nine Fortune 1000 telecom businesses were affiliated with these 6.34 million credentials.

According to the research, this rate of exposure is considered “extreme” when compared to other industries. SpyCloud, on the other hand, discovered 7.52 million credentials associated with IT sector personnel, although these logins were spread over 167 Fortune 1000 companies.

This finding is crucial because telecommunications businesses continue to be prominent targets for hostile hackers looking to gain sensitive consumer data, such as financial and phone-related information. However, as compared to other high-risk industries, these businesses struggle to maintain safe systems, owing mostly to insufficient vendor security procedures.
