Meta implements final phase of layoffs

Share post:

In a strategic move aimed at cost reduction and streamlining operations, Meta has commenced the last phase of its three-part round of layoffs.

This initiative, announced by Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg in March, is a key component of the company’s overarching strategy, aptly named the “Year of Efficiency.” The goal is to achieve substantial financial savings while simultaneously restructuring the organization.

Insiders familiar with the matter have confirmed that Meta has embarked on the final wave of layoffs, as outlined in the plan to eliminate a total of 10,000 positions. The company has meticulously orchestrated this process, ensuring that the majority of the layoffs occur during three specific timeframes over the course of several months. This process is anticipated to conclude predominantly in May, although smaller rounds of cuts may persist beyond that.

Mark Zuckerberg emphasized the significance of these layoffs during the company’s second round, describing them as occurring in three distinct “moments.” He further clarified that the downsizing exercise primarily affects business-oriented roles, with a particular focus on non-engineering positions.

Executives who addressed a company-wide town hall meeting revealed that the layoffs have had a significant impact on roles such as content design and user experience research. Additionally, employees in units dedicated to privacy and integrity have also been affected, as indicated by LinkedIn posts.
