AI conversational capabilities to transform user experience

Microsoft and Adobe are incorporating chat-style interactions into their products by leveraging the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve conversational skills in the digital age. While Microsoft’s Windows Copilot uses an AI search engine to speed setting updates, Adobe Photoshop allows users to define changes that are subsequently carried out by AI.

These AI models now understand and respond to human language with ease, removing the requirement for users to have specialist computer expertise and exceeding prior obstacles such as Clippy in Microsoft Word.

Panos Panay, Microsoft’s Head of Windows, believes that AI is a breakthrough development in computer interfaces that will provide a magical and intuitive experience. He compares it to the change from mouse pointing to scroll wheels, recognizing that it will take time to reach its full potential.

Microsoft has even reintroduced Clippy as an emoji in Windows 11 to highlight this progress. Chatbot-like interfaces are expected to proliferate across domains, transforming how we interact with technology, similar to the ubiquity of smartphone apps.
