Tech workers seek low-stress jobs amid burnout concerns

Share post:

According to posts on Blind and Reddit, tech workers around the world have flocked to social media in recent months to describe their hunt for low-stress career alternatives, claiming burnout as a key issue.

Blind, a famous anonymous employment site, has evolved into a forum for IT employees to share tips on getting “low-pressure” jobs. Discussions on the site have indicated that some employees are prepared to take lesser pay in return for less stress.

Similar discussions have taken place on Reddit, with thousands of people giving their perspectives on low-stress occupations paying more than $100,000. Some employees have even considered quitting the computer business entirely, citing government jobs, project management positions, or chances in the car industry as possible alternatives.

A Meta employee, who wishes to remain anonymous on the site, recently blogged about their need for a low-pressure job, citing fatigue and ongoing concern about fulfilling performance goals. Performance-improvement plans (PIPs), a typical prelude to termination, have exacerbated the stress felt by IT workers. A Snap employee who had previously worked at Meta mirrored this opinion, noting that quitting the company’s culture had considerably improved their well-being.
