Altman tips Israel for big role in AI risk mitigation

During a discussion with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman voiced his opinion that Israel can make a big contribution to minimizing the dangers connected with artificial intelligence (AI).

He praised Israel’s dedication to exploiting technology and harnessing its good effects, underlining the country’s ability to play a vital role in the sector. Furthermore, it has been claimed that Altman, supported by OpenAI sponsor Microsoft, is looking at other investment opportunities in Israel.

Altman also reassured the crowd about the future of work in the face of increased automation during his conversation with President Herzog. He underlined that humans will always have responsibilities, dismissing fears about job displacement caused by AI. While Altman pledged to comply with AI legislation, he warned against too cumbersome limitations that may stifle innovation.

In response to the growth in generative AI, Israel is ready to follow the U.K., U.S., and Europe in deliberating AI rules. In October 2022, it produced a draft paper, and public input is presently being sought.
