Microsoft restores online services after Microsoft 365 downtime

Microsoft has reported that its online services have been successfully restored following an outage that affected a large number of users of its 365 software package, including Teams and Outlook. The outage lasted more than two hours until it was resolved.

At its peak, the disruption prevented around 18,000 people from using productivity apps like as Word and Excel. However, the number of users progressively fell to 906 at 12:57 p.m. ET, according to Downdetector.com, a website that tracks internet outages.

Microsoft responded to the problem via its official Twitter account, Microsoft 365 Status support handle, indicating that it was looking into the issue. It also stated that it was analyzing networking systems and recent modifications in order to determine the root cause of the problem. Later on, Microsoft revealed that the outage had a knock-on effect on other Microsoft ecosystem applications such as Teams, SharePoint Online, and OneDrive for Business.

Fortunately, Microsoft announced the issue had been rectified through Twitter just after 1 p.m. ET. They said that targeted restarts were carried out, thereby reducing the effects. The restoration was accomplished via reverting a system upgrade, albeit no additional details were offered.
