Biden administration forms committee to oversee NSTC

The Biden administration has formed a committee of industry professionals, led by Alphabet Chairman John Hennessy, to oversee the research and development of next-generation computer chips. They will also be responsible for the selection of trustees to oversee the National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC).

Janet Foutty, a Deloitte Consulting principal; Jason Matheny, CEO of the RAND Corporation; Don Rosenberg, an Anzu Partners venture financier and former Qualcomm executive; and Brenda Wilkerson, president of an education organization, are the other specialists chosen.

The NSTC was established under a $52.7 billion bipartisan semiconductor manufacturing and research measure passed last year. The center will be in charge of making politically delicate decisions such as where its research facilities will be located in the United States.

The government, according to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, wants the NSTC to be β€œan engine of innovation, supporting and extending U.S. leadership in semiconductor research, design, engineering, and advanced manufacturing for decades to come.”
