Abridge is using generative AI to develop an AI assistant that can summarize patient visits and provide medical notes for clinicians.
Dr. Matthew Hitchcock, a family physician in Chattanooga, Tennessee, has already begun utilizing the AI assistant and claims that it has saved him hours of labor each week. “I used to spend up to two hours typing these medical notes after my four children went to bed,” he explained. “That’s a thing of the past.”
Despite these challenges, generative AI in healthcare provides tremendous benefits. It has the potential to simplify recordkeeping, saving doctors time and money while improving patient care. AI in healthcare is predicted to become increasingly common as time goes on.
Aside from Abridge, other firms working in the development of generative AI technologies for healthcare include Ambience Healthcare, Augmedix, Nuance, and Suki.
Ambience Healthcare employs artificial intelligence to build virtual assistants that aid doctors with duties such as organizing appointments and ordering testing. Augmedix use artificial intelligence to develop augmented reality glasses that allow clinicians to see patient information and medical pictures while evaluating patients. Nuance employs artificial intelligence to develop speech recognition software that can assist clinicians in dictating medical notes. Suki use artificial intelligence to develop a virtual assistant capable of answering patients’ inquiries and scheduling appointments.
