After Elon Musk placed temporary daily limitations on the number of posts each user may access, there has been a rise in interest in defecting from Twitter.
According to a CasinoAlpha analysis, internet searches for the keyword “Delete Twitter account” increased 292% in the United States and 131% globally on July 1 compared to the preceding seven days. On July 1, searches for “How to delete Twitter account” increased by 230% and 152% globally. The surge in searches for “Delete Twitter account” was most significant among young individuals, with searches by users aged 18-24 increasing 350% in the United States and 200% globally.
Musk set the limitations to fight “data scraping and system manipulation.” Initially, the restrictions were set at 6000 posts per day for verified users, 600 for unverified accounts, and 300 for new unverified accounts. However, in response to user concerns and downtime on Twitter-linked services, the restrictions were eventually raised to 10,000 and 1,000 postings, respectively. The implementation of these limitations resulted in a spike in searches for ‘Is Twitter down,’ with a stunning 3,884% increase in the United States and 3,880% globally.
According to Tudor Turiceanu, CEO of CasinoAlpha, a lack of adequate communication has resulted in a significant surge in searches inquiring whether the website is down.
