India embarks on edge AI revolution

Share post:

India’s manufacturing sector, responsible for 15% of the country’s GDP and employing nearly 12% of its workforce is poised for a major transformation thanks to the rise of edge AI.

Edge AI is a type of artificial intelligence that is deployed on edge devices, such as sensors and controllers. This means that the AI models are trained and run locally, without having to send data to the cloud. This makes edge AI ideal for applications that require real-time processing or that have limited bandwidth.

Dr. Mukesh Gandhi, CEO of Creative Synergies Group, highlights the potential for optimizing operations, reducing downtime through predictive maintenance, and enabling real-time data processing for monitoring equipment performance.

With India falling behind in terms of digital maturity, hardware improvement remains a challenge for Edge AI deployment. Nonetheless, firms like Sima.ai are driving development, and the $5 billion Edge AI industry is predicted to increase at a compound annual growth rate of 20% between 2023 and 2032.

As Edge devices become more powerful, they’ll process complex tasks without relying on cloud resources, leading to accelerated adoption of Edge AI across sectors. This can also facilitate federated learning, enabling collaborative training of ML models without sharing data with a central server.
