According to the Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard’s Digital Reskilling Lab and the BCG Henderson Institute, reskilling, the practice of educating a person on activities beyond their previous skill set or job description, is becoming increasingly crucial.
A McKinsey study indicated that most firms that are implementing AI expect a bit more than 20% of their staff to be reskilled. This is due to the fact that generative AI can automate numerous jobs that are now performed by humans.
For example, generative AI can be used to create marketing content, write code, and even design products. This means that workers who are not able to adapt to these new technologies are at risk of being displaced.
The Digital Data Design Institute and the BCG Henderson Institute adds that reskilling is a must, not a choice. It should address new tasks and company needs, not just cover layoffs. It further emphasizes that all leaders and managers should participate as it is about helping people adapt to new skills. Hence, leaders must show employees the advantages.
Some of the skills that workers will need to learn in order to thrive in the age of generative AI include data analysis, machine learning, programming, creative thinking, and problem-solving.
