Meta’s Quest Pro struggles to gain traction

Meta’s Quest Pro, Meta’s high-end VR headset, has struggled to catch on with consumers since its release last fall. The device has been reportedly met with lukewarm reviews and high prices despite its specs and features.

Priced initially at $1,500, the device has faced significant challenges in gaining traction, in line with earlier predictions. Reports from Mixed Reality News reveal that Meta is now resorting to giving away the Meta Quest Pro for free.

Attendees of this year’s developer conference for the popular gaming platform Roblox were recipients of the device. While the exact number of attendees remains undisclosed, this move clearly indicates the product’s struggle to find its market.

Earlier this year, Meta informed its suppliers that it would not be ordering new components for the Meta Quest Pro, signaling the end of its production. In an attempt to boost sales, Meta had previously slashed the device’s price to $999 in March.

In addition, the Quest Pro is facing increasing competition from other VR headsets, such as the Pico Neo 3 Pro and the upcoming HP Reverb G2 Pro. These headsets offer similar performance and features to the Quest Pro, but at a lower price.

Meta’s Reality Labs division is still spending billions of dollars developing VR technology, but revenues are only a tiny fraction of that. This suggests that the company is struggling to get traction for its metaverse ambitions.
